Only thing I get at my automatic feeder is chick-a-dees and finches. Could this be a new type of golden bird seed? Maybe from goldenrod?

Not sure if it's gold or not because it looks like it's on top of the sand. Gold would be under the sand. Looks really nice though. Tell me more about this Auto feeder.

Great Sanman, I read the review (you guys didn't know I could read...did ya?) and it sounds great....scored a 99 out of 100, can't get much better than that. Now....what is the price? I might have to get one for myself.

As I watched my auto feeders at work I noticed that the light material washes right down the shoot. The heavy material has a tendency to fall to the bottom just like in a pan. As the end of the run approaches the gold tails all of the black sand and the rest of the heavies, it occaisionly gets washed up on top of the black sand, especially the lighter, smaller pieces. The fine gold usually leaves a line at the rear of the trail. I believe this is what you are seeing. The flat flakey stuff that catches the water flow is being pushed up on top of the black sand and gives the appearance that you show in your picture. Next time I run a batch of heavies accross the table, I'll try to take a picture and post for you. Bear in mind that I, like most of us may not have as much color as in your picture but there may be enough to give you an idea of what I mean.

I wanted a better way to got the gold down on the bottom of my feeder. If you have tightly packed black sand the gold will ride right on top and can start to float at this point.

I started out with some scrap plastic, stainless steel wire and an old wiper motor.

Only one piece of gold got into the sluice, the rest just stayed in the feeder + some HG.

Works real good......

This is the rest of the story, that black sand started to compact as it left the stratifying process ...

This will happen on ALL gravity and water methods of trying to capture fine gold, if you don't have a place for fine gold to go it will leave you....

In this pic, Two black marks at the top of the feeder are travel (7/8") , at the bottom mark is 4 1/2" of NO stratification before the cons exit....

MORAL OF THE STORY,,,,,,Stratify

Interesting....

My mini sluice that I use to prosess my fine black sand works basically the same way. I have a three tier water recirculating system to which I add a few drops of detergent, that seems to loosen up the black sands in all cases. I see a visual line of fine gold trailing the black sand as it goes down the automatic feeder. The key seems to be the angle of the feed and the flow of the water. By adjusting both as well as the making sure the size of the material is equal I am getting sufficient results. I am having more projects than I have time right now but I hope to acquire enough black sand in the near future to make another run. I will document the process as best as possible during the run and post for you to see.
